Private Lessons

What is taught

A self defense system that is simple, easy to learn and is functional in real situations! My teachings are motivated by the work of my Sifu Chris Fernandez and the teachings of his mentors Paul Vunak and Dan Inosanto who developed a specific, effective, and efficient form of Jeet Kune Do (JKD). Our standup system is derived mainly from the Filipino Martial Arts, Wing Chun, and Muay Thai. We also incorporate submission fighting that originates in shoot fighting and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Behavioral Psychology is also taught in order to enhance the learning process and improve information retention.

What will you learn

You will learn, footwork, distancing yourself from danger, intercepting attacks, low line kicking defense, punching defense, the power of head butts, powerful kneeing techniques, elbowing progressions, locks and chokes that immobilize along with powerful ways to manipulate and move your opponent where you want them.

Requirements:

A positive attitude and willingness to learn. No previous martial arts experience is necessary. We train in an informal environment, competition is with yourself. The art is individualized to fit your needs. We train caring people, not people who want to hurt.

Rapid Assault Tactics

Rapid Assault Tactics is a system developed by Paul Vunak, founder of Progressive Fighting Systems, for US Navy SEAL Team 6. The basis of this system is to teach how to bypass an assailants attack and end any altercation in a precise and combative way. The RAT is based on realistic defense methods. These methods are streamlined in order to be taught in a short amount of time and still maintain complete effectiveness. The system is guided by one principle; surviving an attack situation through the use of effective and functional combative means that can be taught efficiently and quickly.

That RAT has been influenced by several arts: Jeet Kune Do, Muay Thai, Krav Maga, Filipino Kali, Wing Chun Filipino Escrima, Brazilian Jujitsu, Dumog, Pankration, Wrestling, Judo, Aikido, Savate, Shoot Fighting, and Boxing.

The System

The psychological aspects of fighting that will give you the upper hand in a violent confrontation. How the human body reacts in situations that are perceived harmful. What is functional and what is not. What works in real altercations. Confidence and Clarity!

Phase I - Entry: Penetrating opponents defenses to close the gap into close range combat.

  • Interceptions - Physiological and Psychological
  • Destructions - Tools and techniques that inflict pain which allow entry.

Phase II - Pressure: Physical advancements that put the opponent on the defensive

  • Straight Blasting - Overwhelming series of punches that occupy the opponents center line.
  • Trapping - Series of movements that keep the opponent from countering your attack.

Phase III - Termination: Tools that will quickly neutralize an attacker.

  • Implementation of Termination Tools (head butts, knees, elbows, chokes, etc..)
  • Intensification of Termination Tools (methods that "turbo charge" effectiveness)

The Process

The RAT is designed to be taught quickly and efficiently. The processes by which students learn the RAT system is as follows:

  • Learning - Student observes and is taught the philosophy behind the movement.
  • Practicing - Student practices the movement being demonstrated repetitively through drills.
  • Mastering - Student is able to complete the movement accurately with little error.
  • Functionalizing - Student applies the movement in a realistic situation with a resisting opponent.
  • Maintaining - Student continues training putting in "flight time" to maintain effectiveness.
